The best way to describe Lance Bower in a few words is that he is a family man, an outdoorsman, and a civic minded individual.

Lance grew up in Worland, Wyoming, experiencing the disciplined life of both farming and ranching and, where he also met his wife, Lisa. He became an accomplished horseman, and in is his youth participated in numerous team roping events. Those youthful years and love for farm and ranch life inspired his desire to give back, becoming a founding member and current president of The Cody Buckle Club. The club is a 501(c)3 non-profit.

The Buckle Club's Mission:

"The Cody Buckly Club exists for the community to get involved in rodeo.

Through youth, educational and social events, The Buckle Club is a catalyst for the social, cultural, economic and community benefits of the sport of rodeo in Cody, WY and beyond.

Lance enjoys his time away from real estate with his wife, son and two daughters and, his extended family. One of their favorite things to do as family is to go to football games at the University of Wyoming where he and his wife, Lisa, attended college, as well as, all three of their children. “GO POKES”!

For Lance, there is no better time than quality time in the back-country where he is at home on horseback, hunting, camping, hiking and fishing with friends and family. He states, "I am grateful for access to miles and miles of National Forest and Bureau of Land Management public land".

His love for Wyoming can be found out of doors in the four distinct seasons with the constant reminder of the beauty of the mountains and mindful of the realities of life and how it changes, as does the seasons. Fishing is a time of solitude for him in the peace and quiet. He says, "Fishing reminds me that fish, like people, can be smarter than me. Nature is humbling."

Lance genuinely enjoys meeting people and discovering different cultures and personalities, discovering how similar we all are as a whole.
Driving around town in Cody, the intensity of the yellows and oranges are struck by the morning light and gives the impression of looking directly into the sun. The deep red hue of the Virginia Creeper clinging to fences and climbing up trees is warm and inviting. There is no street in town that isn’t filled with color awaiting the Aspens to be the last to color.

Once the rain kisses the leaves, the color pops again as the concentric rings of color are mirrored under the trees. Occasionally a breeze will gently blow and rustle the leaves on the streets and in yards.

The sky seems to reflect the same fall colors at sunrise and sunset. It requires effort to pull away from the breathtaking scene to attempt to capture a photo that cannot do it justice. Once the wind comes the leaves will disappear in a day leaving the barren trunks and branches reaching for the bluest sky awaiting snowfall to cling to them.

Driving up the Southfork or toward Yellowstone National Park via the Northfork HWY or through the Beartooth Mountains to Cooke City, Montana, offers colorful vistas. The aspen trees make a lovely sound referred to as quaking, appearing to tremble in the breeze.

The red rosehips, black chokecherries, gooseberries and other wild fruits and currants are ready for harvest in the mountains for our large wild game, small ground critters and birds. If you harvest for your own pleasure, be certain to only pick sparingly from each bush leaving plenty behind for our wildlife.

The elk are still hanging low in pastures and meadows eating up for winter preparation in the fall.

https://www.canyonrealestate.net/blog/post/fall-in-yellowstone-country/2023-10-13T14:12:41-06:00Camp while you can
FALL AND WINTER CAMPING

The Shoshone National Forest, was set aside on March 30, 1891, by President Benjamin Harrison, as the Yellowstone Park Timberland Reserve. It is America’s first National Forest and holds a bounty of beauty. So many activities to enjoy including just a scenic drive and picnic.
Scenic Drives

But if you are a camper, your season is just about over with campgrounds closing end of September except for one, Elk Fork.
Also, there are some FEE FREE days coming up for most day use sites:
• National Public Lands Day: Sept. 23, 2023
• Veterans Day: Nov. 11, 2023

CAMPGROUNDS CLOSING END OF SEPTEMBER

There are numerous places to camp between the approximate 50 miles from Cody to Yellowstone National Park in the Shoshone National Forest. Here are a few links to get you started if you choose to camp before the end of September. Some ALLOW tent camping but be aware that bears are hungry getting ready for winter so a tent is not the best choice.
Shoshone USFS MAPS 6 Superb Campgrounds

Fall has begun so now is a perfect time to enjoy some cool temperatures and fall colors.

Always keep food closed up and not loose in your camp area no matter what. It’s important to place your food in the container provided that can be secured but even in those, seal up all food items the best that you can or you may turn around to find a bear trying to get into it. Nothing like walking back from the vault toilet to see a bear which is a reminder to take your bear spray with you even to the toilet and short walks within the campground. If weather conditions don’t allow fires there should be a notice clearly visible and do remember to put out your fire with water prior to bedtime.

Most of the campgrounds are first come first serve and are $10 - $15 a night although there is the benefit of a senior discount. Having cash seems to be the easiest.
There isn’t a camp host in every campground but someone comes through to check from either the Forest Service or a host from another campground. They keep the vault toilets and grounds clean and expect you to do the same.
Here’s the Wapiti Ranger District in Cody telephone number, 307.527.6921, if you need to call ahead for information or need an emergency number to give to family. Cell phones typically don’t work unless you are on a hike and get to high ground in just the right spot.

If you have a dog just keep your pet on a leash and remember that some dogs freak at the smell of bears and could try to run toward them before turning around and running back to you bringing a bear along with them, or a moose, or an elk. All are fast runners. If you plan to go fishing check the seasonal information and have the appropriate license and conservation stamp.

ELK FORK CAMPGROUND

Reserve site
This is the campground open year-round. Sixteen days is your stay limit with no water other than the beautiful creek that runs along the side of the campground. There are several creeks that feed into Elk Fork Creek which stays at a nice flow all season. In the winter you can easily walk through it. It’s a chilly creek all year long.

Elk Fork Campground has vault toilets, fire pits, and food storage. There are 13 camp sites that are close together with trees and some under growth in between. There are horse corrals at the end of the site with parking there, at the trailhead.
Be aware that in both the winter and spring the dirt road can be ice covered or muddy. As long as you are prepared for weather and what nature can offer on any given day, this is a wonderful place to camp year-round. There are numerous studies showing the importance of nature for our mental health, so pack up and get out there.
https://www.canyonrealestate.net/blog/post/camp-while-you-can/2023-09-13T15:12:28-06:00Living in Yellowstone Country

The view on any given day, at any time of day, in any season will be different and not repeatable as you drive out of Cody through Yellowstone Country. All that you have to do is take the time to observe the sky and the landscape. Here, we learn patience and an understanding of nature. Yellowstone Country has a lifestyle for the nature lover, the sportsman and those that just want that wide open spaces and peaceful lifestyle. We are surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, including the nearby Absaroka Range and the gateway to Yellowstone National Park. If you love outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, hunting, and camping, you'll find plenty of opportunities right in your backyard.

A few miles east of Cody you can see wild Mustang horses roaming the McCullough Peaks. South of town you can find petroglyphs a few miles off of the road and further south, go soak in hot springs. Head north and the views of the rugged Beartooth mountains which loom majestically over Clark will take your breath away. Their rugged beauty and unique geology make them a fascinating and awe-inspiring natural wonder. Westward, up the Southfork of the Shoshone River you can appreciate the dangerous sport of ice climbing in the winter and watch wildlife or camp or hike in the summer. The famous Thorofare trail is accessed from the Southfork. The Thorofare area is the most remote wilderness in the lower 48 states. Following the Northfork highway west out of Cody, the scenic 50-mile drive from Cody, Wyoming, to the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park is one of the most beautiful and iconic routes in the region. A favorite pastime in the winter months for locals is to take this drive to view the Big Horn sheep that are often down along the road. Northwest of Cody is the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway and the Beartooth Highway where you will often see mountain goats at the higher elevations.

Pride in its Western heritage runs throughout Yellowstone country and you'll find that cowboy culture is deeply ingrained in the town of Cody’s identity. Rodeos, Western art, and events celebrating this heritage are common. The world-renowned Buffalo Bill Center of the West museum complex is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of the American West and includes five museums, each focusing on different aspects of Western history, art, and culture.

Cody's proximity to Yellowstone National Park makes it a tourist destination during the summer months. While this brings economic benefits to the town, it also means that the population can fluctuate with the tourist season.

Wildlife is abundant in Yellowstone Country including the town deer. We watch for deer, antelope, fox, turkey, a loose cow or any number of wildlife about to run across the road or a herd of elk slowly crossing the road around the next corner even though the road sign says we can drive 65 miles per hour.

In Yellowstone country you can have the lushest garden one could imagine and also pick wild fruit and berries. If you appreciate hunting and fishing, we have licensed hunting and fishing seasons and you will also see ice fisherman on the Buffalo Bill Reservoir on cold blue ice days. All seasons of the year offer opportunities to "hunt" with your camera.

Yellowstone country is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including mountains, rivers, and forests, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing and rodeo are popular during the summer months. Winter months offer skiing, snow shoeing and ice climbing.

The stars brilliantly light the skies at night. The sunrises and sunsets defy your imagination. Life is slower paced as each new day awaits a new adventure in Yellowstone Country.
https://www.canyonrealestate.net/blog/post/living-in-yellowstone-country/2023-09-11T17:47:00-06:00Cody Is Rodeo
RODEO CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

The Cody Nite Rodeo is considered the "Rodeo Capital of the World". If you don’t believe it just read the sign! Now, it's also known for the only rodeo in the U.S that has a performance nightly throughout the summer months.

Cody was known as Buffalo Bill’s town where he held tryouts for his Wild West Show
in front of the Irma hotel.

A few years after his death, a parade and rodeo celebration began in 1919 as a way to commemorate Buffalo Bill Cody and the “wild west”. We can only imagine what the after parties were like at Wolfville Hall. A little drinking, dancing and gambling perhaps? If you look closely in the old parade photos below you may recognize a few buildings. Keeping our heritage and small-town flavor alive is an important quality that our Cody community offers.

Originally the rodeo grounds were at Circle Drive and Stampede Ave. The current location is on the west end of Cody headed out of town toward Yellowstone National Park at 519 W Yellowstone Avenue. Have you ever wondered how Stamped Avenue got the name?

The Cody Rodeo is considered a starting place for young cowboys and cowgirls alike, where professionals practice their craft. Lots of famous cowboys started in Cody, like Bill Smith, Mel Stonehouse, Cecil McMillian, Nick Knight, Floyd Stillings, John Kirkpatrick, Normal Price and Arthur Holman. And, world champions and pros like Jim Houston, Chris LeDoux, Tom Ferguson, Deb Greenough, and Dan Mortensen have performed at the Cody Nite Rodeo.

Between the antics of the rodeo clowns and the announcer, and the romping “kids calf scramble”, the entertainment never slows down. Watching all of the kids line up across the arena in the dirt and muck in flip flops, sandals, cowboy boots and tennis shoes is comical just waiting to see what they do when the calves run out toward them with kerchiefs tied on their tales. The kids of all ages and sizes are running, falling down, doing anything possible to grab the cloth and win a prize. Size doesn’t matter, sometimes a winner is determined by being in the right place at the right time. Great fun for all. https://www.youtube.com
